# Weighted Average Cost (WACC) Calculator

> Blend several purchase lots, bonus issues and rights into one cost per share for MeroShare.

https://laganisaathi.com/calculators/weighted-average.md

## Formula

For each lot, subtotal = quantity × rate, plus the charge stack for a
secondary-market purchase. Then:

**WACC** = total cost of all lots ÷ total quantity

## Which charges apply

Only a secondary-market lot carries the NEPSE charge stack. Every other lot was
bought at what it was actually issued or traded for, so charging again would
overstate the cost basis.

| Source | Rate | Commission, SEBON fee and DP charge |
|---|---|---|
| IPO (issue price) | you enter it | no |
| Secondary market (paid) | you enter it | yes |
| FPO (issue price) | you enter it | no |
| Right share (at par) | follows face value | no |
| Bonus share (at face value) | follows face value | no |
| Auction | you enter it | no |

A bonus or rights lot takes its rate from the face value rather than the rate
field, so the two cannot disagree. Face value is 100 unless you choose
10.

## WACC entries in MeroShare

Tick "This is a WACC price" when entering a weighted average into MeroShare. That
excludes the buy-side charges, because MeroShare wants the market cost rather
than the cost of buying into the market. Sell-side charges still apply.

## Worked example

| Lot | Quantity | Rate | Subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|
| IPO (issue price) | 20 | Rs 120 | Rs 2,400 |
| Secondary market (paid) | 100 | Rs 1,000 | Rs 1,00,000 |
| Secondary market (paid) | 100 | Rs 1,100 | Rs 1,10,000 |
| Bonus share (at face value) | 10 | Rs 100 | Rs 1,000 |

- Total cost = Rs 2,13,400
- Total quantity = 230
- **WACC = Rs 927.83**
